By default, 蹤獲扦 may release a student's directory information. Students may prohibit (or block) the public disclosure of directory information by completing a Privacy Block form

Purpose of Directory Information

The primary purpose of directory information is to allow 蹤獲扦 to include information from your education records in certain school publications. Examples include:

  • A playbill showing a student’s role in a drama production;
  • Honor roll or other academic recognition lists;
  • Graduation programs; and
  • Sports activity sheets, such as for wrestling, show team members' weight and height.

What is Directory Information?

Directory information, which is information that is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if released, can also be disclosed to outside organizations without a student’s prior written consent. If you do not want 蹤獲扦 to disclose any or all of the types of information designated below as directory information from your education record without your prior written consent, you must notify the college or district in writing. 蹤獲扦 has designated the following information as directory information:

  • name
  • address
  • phone number
  • 蹤獲扦 email address
  • photographs
  • electronic images
  • place of birth
  • major fields of study
  • participation in officially recognized activities
  • dates of attendance
  • degrees
  • awards and academic honors received
  • Dean's List selection
  • previous institutions attended
  • program and promotional materials on participants in various sports and similar public activities, including weights and heights of athletic team members

Withholding Release of Directory Information

Students should carefully consider the consequences of a decision to withhold directory information. A privacy block will call for 蹤獲扦 not to release this directory information. Therefore, any future requests for such information from non-institutional persons or organizations will be refused.

Although 蹤獲扦 will honor a student's request to withhold directory information, it cannot assume responsibility for contacting the student for subsequent permission to release this information. Regardless of the effect upon the student, the university assumes no liability due to honoring a student's instructions to withhold such information.

A few other notes:

  • If a student blocks directory information, it still may be inspected by those 蹤獲扦 officials authorized by law to inspect education records without consent.
  • If a student chooses to block directory information, it cannot be released to friends, family, prospective employers, the news media, advisors, student activities, and honors societies.
  • Some reasons for considering a privacy block on directory information include harassment or the advice of a legal or medical professional.
  • If a student chooses to block directory information, then no information from the student's education record will be released to military recruiters as specified in the Solomon Amendment. Learn more about data sharing for military recruitment.

Removing Privacy Block

If a student wishes to remove the privacy block, he or she must rescind the previous block by completing the Revocation of Request to Withhold Directory Information. 蹤獲扦 assumes responsibility for contacting students for subsequent permission to release this information. It is the sole responsibility of the student to initiate the release of blocked information.
